Top Ten Reasons My Child Might Benefit From ABA Services at In2Great!
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) can offer numerous benefits to children, especially those with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). At In2Great! We have created an ABA program to focus on the teachings and principles set forth by Dr. Greg Hanley. We focus on Natural Environment Teaching (NET), and understanding that learning and interactions happen when a child is happy, regulated, and engaged. Here are ten reasons your child could benefit from In2Great!’s ABA:
- Improves Communication Skills: ABA focuses on teaching children how to communicate effectively, whether through speech, gestures, or assistive technologies, helping children express their needs and wants. When we play together, there are so many excellent opportunities to communicate!
- Promotes Social Skills Development: ABA helps children build important social skills, such as making eye contact, taking turns, and understanding social cues, which are often challenging for children with autism. Even though those skills are important by themselves, we recognize there are some social skills that can enhance interaction and make play more enjoyable.
- Enhances Behavioral Management: ABA teaches children how to manage and reduce challenging behaviors, such as tantrums, aggression, or self-injury, by reinforcing positive behaviors and teaching alternative ways to express emotions. We understand the need to reduce behaviors that hurt, but we also emphasize the need to understand why those behaviors happen and how we can help children – not just stop the behavior.
- Boosts Academic Skills: ABA strategies are highly effective in helping children learn academic skills, including reading, writing, math, and problem-solving, in a structured and supportive environment. Doing well in a school setting is important to so many parents, and we understand that academic skills help kids communicate what they know. If kids are happy, regulated and engaged, learning will follow.
- Improves Self-Help Skills: ABA can assist children in learning essential life skills like dressing, feeding themselves, brushing teeth, and toileting, which promotes independence and self-sufficiency. We use interaction and pretend play to work on functional skills essential for increasing independence for all our children.
- Increases Focus and Attention: ABA techniques help children stay on task and concentrate longer by breaking tasks into smaller steps and providing positive reinforcement, leading to improved focus. The terms “focus” and “attention” can sound harsh, but we recognize the little ways we all use focus and attention to enhance our interactions.
- Strengthens Emotional Regulation: ABA can help children understand their emotions, leading to better self-regulation and fewer emotional outbursts or meltdowns. Having fewer meltdowns is great, but we also focus on the fact that emotional regulation leads to happier kids.
- Tailored to Individual Needs: ABA is highly customizable, so interventions are designed specifically for your child’s unique strengths, needs, and learning style, ensuring a more personalized approach. We play the way our kids need us to play.
- Provides Clear, Measurable Goals: ABA focuses on observable and measurable behaviors, making it easier to track progress and adjust strategies to meet the child’s goals effectively. Our BCBA’s are spectacular at creating measurable goals that are important to parents and kids.
- Encourages Positive Reinforcement: ABA emphasizes rewarding desired behaviors, which can motivate children to repeat positive actions and reinforce good habits over time. We all recognize that positive reinforcement is essential in children’s development, but when we can use that positive lens to view our kids, challenges and needs can be seen as hope and goals. These benefits can significantly improve a child’s quality of life and their ability to interact with the world in more effective and meaningful ways. It’s about the joy we find in life. We want that for all our kids. We strive for that in our “Today’s ABA” Program.
